It's time to rein in Trump's NSA

MESSAGE FROM ABDI SOLTANI, THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE ACLU OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, SENT ON OCT 25, 2017.

The Trump Administration is spying on millions of Americans — and Congress has a chance to stop it.

Sen. Feinstein (D-California) will be a key vote in reforming warrantless government surveillance conducted under a law, Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. Right now, the government uses this law against Americans and sweeps up private information obtained from hundreds of millions of our emails, text messages, instant messages, video chats, and more.

President Trump wants Congress to extend Section 702 without any reforms and it's time for Congress to tell him NO.

Yesterday, Sen. Feinstein took a step forward and sponsored an amendment to require the government to get a warrant to search through the information about people in the U.S., closing what has been called the "backdoor search loophole." Without this reform, there is little that stops the government from using Section 702 to improperly target journalists, activists, or communities of color for surveillance.

Sen. Feinstein needs to hear from you — she has to take a step further and oppose efforts by the Trump Administration and others to extend this law without reform.

End warrantless government surveillance. Call (202) 244-3841 and ask Sen. Feinstein to:

•  Support the bipartisan USA RIGHTS Act, which reforms Section 702

•  Reject Sen. Burr's bill to extend Section 702 without reforms

Sincerely,

Abdi Soltani Executive Director ACLU of Northern CA
