How is the ACLU protecting immigrant rights?

Dear Friends:

The ACLU of Northern California - Santa Clara Valley Chapter will be holding its annual board election event as follows:

Date:        Wednesday, January 30th, 2019

Time:        6:30 pm - 8:30 pm PST

Location: San Jose City Hall

Rooms 118 to 120 (Closest to the 4th Street Entrance)

200 E. Santa Clara Street, San Jose, CA 95113

This past year has shown us that immigrant rights are under constant attack in this administration. Please join the Santa Clara Valley chapter of the ACLU for a presentation by Vasudha Talla on the front lines of the fight for immigrants’ justice. You’ll learn about issues such as family separation and the asylum ban, and hear about the most pressing issues we must plan for in the future.

Vasudha Talla is a Staff Attorney at the ACLU of Northern California. Since coming on board in October of 2017, she has worked to defend and advance the rights of immigrants and Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian communities.

Several community partners will also be in attendance.  So, come find out more about them and their volunteer opportunities.

Light refreshments and snacks will be provided! This event is wheelchair accessible.

The schedule for the evening will be:

• 7:00 pm Introductions and ACLU-NC SCV Annual Report
• 7:15 pm Candidates Statements and Election
• 7:30 pm Presentation by Vasudha Talla, followed by Q&A
• 8:00 pm Breakout Sessions and Meet Community Partners
• 8:30 pm Program End

Parking is available at the 4th Street public garage across the street.

This event is also a chance to learn how to join your local ACLU Chapter to fight for issues that you care about! ACLU chapter members work on issues ranging from immigration, to criminal justice, to gender equity. Chapters are the ACLU's eyes and ears in our home communities, and we keep lawmakers on their toes by representing ACLU priorities and issues. During this event, we will also hold our annual election of Chapter Board members.
