ACLU Santa Clara Valley chapter July meeting

The ACLU Santa Clara Valley Chapter’s monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 26th, starting at 7PM at San Jose City Hall, room 118.  Parking is located just around the corner at the City Hall Parking Garage and the 4th Street Garage.

The first part of the meeting will be the monthly meeting of the Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the ACLU, including local updates and discussion.

Following that, our guest speakers Nick Kuwada and Mohsin Mirza will present the topic of voting rights.

Nick Kuwada joined Asian Law Alliance in 2009.  He directs the Civic Engagement Program and manages the community-based organization network that ALA relies on for community outreach around the Census and Redistricting.  His goals are to raise awareness around elections and local, political issues as well as increase language access at the polls.  He is also in charge of registering new voters and working with communities to ensure that elections are fair and accessible to new immigrant communities.

Mohsin Mirza is the Voting Rights Program Coordinator at Advancing Justice-Asian Law Caucus. His work focuses on improving access to voting for immigrant and limited English-proficient (LEP) AAPI and Latino voters. He oversees outreach to community organizations and leaders across Northern California and is responsible for helping to run Advancing Justice – ALC’s Election Day poll monitoring program.

  • 7:00PM - 7:30PM:  ACLU Santa Clara Valley Chapter Monthly Meeting
    • Latest ACLU updates on key initiatives, workshops, etc.
    • Discussion / Q&A
  • 7:30PM - 8:30PM: Presentation by Nick Kuwada, Q&A, take action

There is no charge for this event. Seating is on first-come, first-served basis.
