July community meeting – criminal justice reform
The Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the ACLU of Northern California is holding a community meeting on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 starting at 7PM in the Community Room of the Rose Garden Branch Library (1580 Naglee Avenue, San Jose, CA 95126). Street parking is available. Please do not park in the parking lot of the library since the gate will be locked at 7PM.
The first part of the meeting will be a presentation by Amanda Young on the topic of criminal justice reform, with special focus on the ACLU priority bills SB 1421 and AB 931 pertaining to police transparency and accountability. Amanda Young is a Program Coordinator at the ACLU of Northern California, where she focuses on trainings and campaigns to advance civil rights and liberties.
During the second part of the meeting, we will write postcards to immigrants in detention centers to show our love and support. This is in response to the manufactured crisis of family separation by the Trump administration. If you plan to participate in postcard writing, please bring an object with a hard surface, e.g. a book or a clipboard, to facilitate the writing.
The agenda for this meeting will be:
- 6:30PM – 7:00PM: Registration/Networking
- 7:00PM – 8:00PM: Presentation by Amanda Young, Q&A, Action Items
- 8:00PM – 8:15PM: Transition to postcard writing
- 8:15PM – 9:00PM: Postcard writing
There is no charge for this event. RSVP to [email protected] .
We look forward to seeing you there!
Sincerely,
Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the ACLU of Northern California
